If you came across Saesha in the street, you wouldn’t think that she was a singer-songwriter, let alone someone who would even be on a stage. Being naturally gifted in math and science, left-brained, introverted, and serious, she seemingly is everything that a typical musician is not. However, beneath the surface, she has always had a creative side that began with her writing short stories and poems at a young age, and eventually songs. Inspired by an uncle who had once worked with a producer of the Beatles, she bought a guitar at the age of 13 and taught herself how to play. She wrote many songs throughout high school, but never showed them to anyone - even her own family, whom she felt disapproved of her creative endeavors (in favor of math and science). But however stifled she felt by her environment, she felt like music gave her a voice and was the purest expression of who she was.
Towards the end of high school, she realized that she wanted to make music her career, and around that time, a family friend came over and coaxed her to share some of her music. Together they formed a band and added on 2 more members, and over the course of 2 years, they played small coffee shop shows around town and then moved on to bigger venues like the Black Sheep. Unfortunately, the band eventually broke up due to creative differences, and Saesha took a year off from music to focus on college and to figure out exactly what she wanted.
Having just a little more than one year left until graduation, she was once again at a crossroads of doing what was practical or trying music again. Despite the quiet and ever-looming disapproval of her parents, she chose music. However, she made a promise to herself that this time would be different, and that she would be as authentic and true to herself, her vision, and her music as possible.
Since then, she has been steadily working towards building a solo career where her music reflects an organic authenticity. She unveils a more vulnerable side, exposing raw emotion – driven to find just the right words and just the right melody to perfectly express her feelings. She continues to become inspired by songwriters of the past, researching and understanding their foundations as well as their inspirations, working to comprehend would made them great and their music timeless. She draws from many musical influences, particularly Stevie Nicks, Jewel, Sia, and the folk singer-songwriters of the 70s.
Her music has been described as tender, heartfelt, introspective, and emotionally-intelligent. She knows she is capable of leaving lasting impressions on music fans everywhere, and hopes that the authenticity of her feelings will speak directly to their hearts.
When she’s not playing music, you can find her cooking, reading, hiking, binging on Food Network, and napping with her cat.
